The Sunny Scent of Sweet Orange Essential Oil

A juicy, vibrant fruit that makes you feel happy. You can smell them before you open the peel and the scent often stays on your fingers until you wash them. Sweet orange essential oil, extracted from the rind of the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), is a popular choice in aromatherapy. Its cheerful and uplifting aroma is a crowd pleaser and can bring a sense of joy.

Where Does it Come From?

Sweet oranges are cultivated in various warm climates worldwide, including Spain, Brazil, and the United States.

How is it Made?

Sweet orange essential oil is primarily produced through cold pressing [extraction]. In this process, the rinds of the oranges are mechanically pressed to extract the oil. Similar to when you zest citrus fruit or peel it, a small amount of liquid will squirt out and release the fruity scent. However it is done at scale to generate the essential oils.

How is it Used?

We add it to our EAT candle, blended with lemon, spearmint and basil to give a fresh, bright aroma around your kitchen or living room. This blend encourages conversation and deodorises food smells after cooking.

It is also thought to help aid digestion, relieve abdominal pain or constipation so if you’re ever struggling after a big meal or fizzy prosecco, try inhaling a few drops of Orange essential oil on a tissue. You can always take a small bottle out with you when you know you are going to a big event.

On skin it can improve skin brightness and appear more youthful. If you are using Sweet Orange essential oil to apply to the skin it's a good idea to choose organic and use a reputable supplier like the Aromatherapy Company.

Adding a few drops of Sweet Orange essential oil to water for a refreshing room spray is perfect to help relieve stress and calm anxieties. It works well to calm teenagers before exams and prevent young children from worrying about the dark at night.

Cleaning

You can use Sweet Orange essential oil for cleaning products, it has antimicrobial properties that help to disinfect surfaces whilst leaving a pleasant smell.

Please note, Sweet Orange essential oil is difficult to preserve so store in a dark bottle, keep in the dark and use quickly!
